The Outlaws Are IN This Year For The "All For The Hall"
Keith Urban will momentarily step away from being a judge on Idol to host his fourth-annual All for the Hall benefit concert, scheduled for April 16 at Nashville's Bridgetone Arena.
This year's concert has adopted a 'Rebels and Renegades, the Outlaws are IN' theme and will feature performances from country music's most rebellious artists, including Vince Gill, Trace Adkins, Jason Aldean,Rosanne Cash, Eric Church, Brantley Gilbert, Kid Rock, Kris Kristofferson, Loretta Lynn, Tim McGraw, Montgomery Gentry, Willie Nelson, Billy Joe Shaver and Hank Williams, Jr.
The 2013 concert is the first to take on a specific theme. Urban admits that the outlaw mentality perfectly compliments the creative spirit of the benefit program. "The purity in making music on your own terms — to create art in your own way — for me, is at the heart of the outlaw spirit," he says in a statement on his official website. "It's those outlaws that we celebrate this year, who not only made it possible for a guy like me to do what I love, but who play a pivotal role in the strength of country music's diversity."
Urban first introduced the We're All for the Hall concept in 2010 and has since raised approximately $1.5 million, which is donated directly to the Country Music Hall of Fame. The Aussie superstar works with the longstanding landmark to support the museum's mission, preservation efforts, exhibitions and educational programs that educate the public on country music's cultural significance in our society.
Tickets for the 2013 We're All for the Hall event go on sale March 1 at 10AM CST at Ticketmaster's official website, all Ticketmaster locations and the Bridgestone Arena box office. Seats are priced at $35 and $50 with multiple VIP packages available, as well. Museum members enjoy a special pre-sale ticket opportunity for the event.
So this happened last week, but it just hit the news cycle this week . . . and it was TOO GOOD for us not to tell you about.
Back on the 12th, 50-year-old Michael Pete Harding of South Grafton, Massachusetts was busted shoplifting a shopping cart's worth of stuff from a Target. And what was the highlight of the stuff he stole?
Several packages of JUSTIN BIEBER VALENTINES.
We have no idea why a 50-year-old man needs one Justin Bieber valentine, let alone dozens . . . but the heart wants what it wants.
Michael also shoplifted several cases of Red Bull, some containers of Tide, and some groceries.
Store security spotted him running through the parking lot with his cart full of stolen merchandise, and called the cops. An officer ended up in a foot race with Michael, which ended when the cop TASED him.
Michael was arrested for larceny and resisting arrest.
MIRANDA LAMBERT is a huge BEYONCÉ fan . . . and, since they were sitting close at the Grammys, CMT asked her if they connected. They did.
Miranda explains, quote, "I tapped her on the shoulder and just told her I was a huge fan and that she was a big inspiration to me. I just talked to her like a genuine fan . . . because I am.
"I was really nervous, but she's very gracious. She was very, very sweet. And she said, 'I'm a fan of you and your husband.'"
Speaking of Miranda Lambert. She and BLAKE SHELTON landed at #7 on "Men's Health" magazine's list of "Top 20 Couples of 2013". Ironically, Beyoncé and JAY-Z are #3. The OBAMAS are Number One.
For the side bar description, the magazine referenced the time Blake said he and Miranda enjoy relations, quote, "In the truck, back at home . . . back in the woods. We like to know that wild animals are watching us."
In order to get some heat for his new single "1994", JASON ALDEAN asked people to post a photo of themselves from 1994 on his Twitter page. He's getting great response from fans . . . AND some fellow country stars. Here are a few:
--KEITH URBAN gave up a promo shot of him looking like a rock star. He wrote, "I was rockin' the oversize thrift store jacket in #1994!"
--LADY ANTEBELLUM'S HILLARY SCOTT was eight years old in 1994. She Tweeted a photo of her and her dad, and his sweet looking mullet.
--TIM MCGRAW served up a pic from his "Not A Moment Too Soon" album cover from 1994. He wrote, quote, "Hey @Jason_Aldean check out this shirt man, that was happenin' in 1994." (Country Music Tattletale)
Preliminary autopsy results have confirmed that MINDY MCCREADY'S death was suicide from a single gunshot wound to the head.
Also, a hearing has been scheduled for April 5th regarding custody of Mindy's two sons . . . 6-year-old Zander and 10-month-old Zayne. (People)
The Secret To Being Healthy Is...........
NOW we know why ZZ TOP is still alive and kickin'. A new study out of the University of Southern Queensland in Australiahas found that a big secret to being healthy is . . . a BIG, SEXY BEARD. Here's why . . .
#1) Beards protect your face from the sun. Men with beards . . . or bearded ladies in carnivals . . . are exposed to 30% fewer UV rays on their faces.
#2) Beards can trap allergens that might cause asthma attacks.
#3) They keep water from leaving your skin, which keeps it moisturized . . . and makes a person's face AGE more slowly.
#4) They raise your neck temperature, which helps fight colds.
So I guess those DUCK DYNASTY fellas are gonna be around for a while too... I'm Cool with that JACK....
POSTAL SERVICE FASHION:
We all know the U.S. Postal Service is in trouble: They lost $16 BILLION last year. And I hate to be the one kicking them when they're down . . . but I just don't think THIS is going to get them out of the red.
The USPS just announced their latest plan to make more money . . . is by starting their own CLOTHING LINE.
It's called "Rain, Heat & Snow," and it's going to be a line of, quote, "smart apparel" that you can wear in any weather condition, and that somehow integrates with your electronics.
Although they haven't really elaborated on how it does that.
A company called Wahconah Group in Cleveland, Ohio is going to help them with it. There's no word when the clothing will hit stores.
Two brothers in Wichita, Kansas won $75,000 on a scratch-off lottery ticket on Friday . . . and it was time to CELEBRATE.
So they went out and spent some of their winnings on marijuana and meth, and went home to party.
The guys were using butane torches to light their bongs . . . and the 27-year-old brother tried to refill the torch. He emptied, quote, "two big ole cans of butane" . . . and when the gas reached the pilot light of the furnace, it EXPLODED.
He was hospitalized with second degree burns to his hands, arms, and chest. And he was wearing a Kansas Lottery t-shirt when he was admitted to the hospital. He's in stable but serious condition. The other brother was arrested.
I'm going to come right out and say it: MINDY MCREADY was an incredibly disturbed human being. The local sheriff said BEFORE Mindy turned the gun on herself . . . she SHOT and KILLED her late boyfriend David Wilson's DOG.
It even sounds like some kind of ritual killing . . . because the sheriff found Mindy and the dog NEXT TO EACH OTHER on the SAME PORCH where Wilson died last month. It's like she wanted them to be joined in death.
And let's not forget that before she took her own life, Mindy was considered a suspect in Wilson's death.
Here's one last bizarre twist to all of this. Mindy recently hired a private investigator named Danno Hanks . . . yes, like Danno on "Hawaii Five-O" . . . to help her make a video of a song called "I'll See You Yesterday".
Danno thought the video was to help people deal with a loved one's suicide, but now believes he was helping Mindy write her suicide note. E! Online has more on that.
Finally . . . Mindy's PR flaks issued an official death statement. As you'd expect, they're asking for "sensitivity" and "quiet". They're also working out details to do a public memorial in Nashville. You check on that here.
TAYLOR SWIFT is being sued by a Canadian ticket company for KEEPING the $2.5 million they paid her in advance . . . even though the concert was cancelled and she never performed.
Taylor is actually being sued for $1.8 million . . . because that's what the ticket company had to hand out in refunds. So even if Taylor DID fork that over, she would still walk away with some $700,000.
Taylor's people are sounding like weasels about it. A rep told TMZ that their deal was not with the ticket company . . . so she's not responsible for the refunds. They also claim they have not yet seen the lawsuit.
DIERKS BENTLEY invited a Walmart checker named Kayla Slone to the ACMs . . . after seeing her perform DOLLY PARTON'S "Coat of Many Colors" on YouTube.
TIM MCGRAW'S song "Highway Don't Care" features TAYLOR SWIFT on vocals . . . and KEITH URBAN on guitar. But the next time around Tim wants Keith to do some vocals.
Tim said, quote, "We still want to find one to sing together on. It's just finding the right thing." (Country Weekly)
ERIC CHURCH recorded an acoustic version of his song "Like Jesus Does" . . . and then released it on video. You can check it out here.
I feel like if you go past a house that STILL has its CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS up, you know something ain't quite right there. And this just proves that theory.
Earlier this month, in Crestview, Florida, a woman decided February was JUST about the right time to finally start taking down the lights. And it seems that her 49-year-old husband didn't agree.
So while she put away the Christmas stuff . . . he JUMPED ON HER and tried to WRESTLE her WEDDING RING off her hand.
She got away and called the cops. He was charged with domestic violence.
It's not exactly clear why her putting away the Christmas decorations made him want to end the marriage, at least symbolically . . . but, ya know, Christmas decorations up in February seem like a sign of deeper underlying issues.
MINDY MCCREADY is dead at the age of 37. A local sheriff issued a statement saying she died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound at her Heber Springs, Arkansas home, which is 60 miles north of Little Rock.
The sheriff said officers arrived at her house at . . . where they found Mindy's body on the front porch. Mindy's brother confirmed her death to the "New York Daily News".
Mindy's rep told E!, quote, "I have no statement or information to provide until I get verification from the authorities in Arkansas and until all family including the children have been notified. The family and I have been trying to reach the authorities.
"I have not spoken to any officials that were on the scene. I am asking the media for sensitivity in this regard. At this time, any family member coming forward to confirm this is completely inappropriate."
Mindy's life was tragic on so many levels that this doesn't come as a surprise, but it's heartbreaking nonetheless. She had two young sons, six-year-old Zander . . . and nine-month-old Zayne.
We may never know why Mindy decided to take her life now . . . but everything points to last month's shooting death of her boyfriend David Wilson. That started out as a possible suicide . . . and then turned into Mindy being a suspect.
Mindy's body was taken to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy. There's no indication yet that she was under the influence when she died . . . but considering her history of substance abuse, that's not out of the question.
Mindy attempted suicide twice in 2005 by drug overdose . . . and once in 2008 after she cut her wrists.
One last note: If you would like to make your thoughts known . . . people have been leaving messages on Twitter at #RIP Mindy.
It's hard to remember that Mindy had a bright future back in the '90s. She had a #1 hit with "Guys Do It All The Time" . . . and was engaged to DEAN "SUPERMAN" CAIN in 1997. They broke up in '98.
Her downward spiral included an arrest in 2004 for trying to pass off a fraudulent OxyContin prescription. In 2005 her then-boyfriend Billy McKnight tried to MURDER HER. McKnight is the father of her son Zander.
Mindy also claimed she had a longtime affair with ROGER CLEMENS that supposedly began when she was a teenager. Clemens insists they were just friends.
Several country stars hit up Twitter with thoughts about MINDY MCCREADY'S suicide. Here are a few:
--JASON ALDEAN: "Just heard about Mindy McCready. My thoughts and prayers are with her 2 boys and her family."
--MARTINA MCBRIDE: "So sad."
--CHELY WRIGHT: "Really, really sad to learn the news about Mindy McCready. I will pray for her children and I hope that people are gentle with her memory."
Finally . . . The saddest part of this whole tragedy is that it DIDN'T HAVE TO HAPPEN. At least, that's what DR. DREW believes . . . and he knows because he TREATED Mindy on "Celebrity Rehab".
He said on CNN, quote, "She is a lovely woman, we have lost her and it didn't have to go down like this."
Last year DIERKS BENTLEY talked about how it sucks being older because he's starting to get granny panties thrown to the stage. But he's not the only country artist getting underwear tossed his way.
CHRIS YOUNG was KATIE COURIC'S show last week and she asked him if he has groupies. He said, quote, "There's a certain amount of underwear that comes on stage at show. [But] not at acoustic shows."
Chris also thought he'd be HI-larious by joking that he'd committed INCEST with his sister. He said, quote, "I haven't said this anywhere, but I married my sister."
After "shocking" Katie and everyone in the audience he explained that he recently got a license to marry people. He said, quote, "I officiated the ceremony at my sister's wedding." Check out the video.....
You may recall that CARRIE UNDERWOOD will be playing Maria Von Trapp in a TV remake of "The Sound of Music".
Well, JULIE ANDREWS, who arguably IS Maria, was asked if she's met Carrie yet. She said, quote, "No, I don't know her, and I would love to know her. And maybe I will." (Wall Street Journal)
