About StyckMan

StyckMan’s music career began in High School with the marching band. It was when he was marching a show and listening to the cheering crowd that he realized that, in his words, “People actually get paid to do this”. It was at that point that he said that he’d be in the music industry one way or the other.

In 1989 StyckMan scored his first radio gig at WSMT-AM playing Classic Country and Southern Gospel on the weekends. He stayed in that position for a very short time before he moved to WSMT’s FM sister station, Classic 105.5. StyckMan worked as a “Rock Star” with classic rock. This is also where StyckMan met Gator Harrison, (Then known as Steve Marks) who was just about to move on to y107 in Nashville. They remained friends even though they were living totally different radio lives.

Management changed at WSTM and StyckMan found himself without a job.  Armed with the country knowledge that he’d picked up on WSMT-AM, StyckMan moved to WCSD-FM, Sunny 95.9 In an overnight position and stayed there for quite a while.   The overnight time slot didn’t offer much for interaction with other people so StyckMan worked to find another job.

Working through an agent he moved out west to KFXI in Marlow Oklahoma but the move wasn’t just him. He married his high school sweetheart Tammy, packed up his truck and spent his honeymoon with an 18 hour trip to his new job.

Feeling a little homesick they returned to Tennessee and took a job at the now defunct Opryland Theme Park as a lighting technician.  He worked elbow to elbow with some of the biggest names in country music at the time, Toby Keith, Doug Stone, and Collin Raye, just to name a few.

The radio bug bit him again and he took his radio life full circle by returning to WSMT-FM, which had changed to Real Country 105.5. But at the time he was always on the hunt for bigger and better things.

He finally scored a job with the #1 Radio Station in Cookeville Tennessee, WGSQ-FM 94.7 The Country Giant, where he quickly joined up with his old buddy Gator Harrison to form the Gator & StyckMan morning program.  Gator & StyckMan have really attached themselves to the community which is what separates them from all other radio shows.

Thirteen years, Two CMA's, and One ACM later, Gator landed a gig as Operations Manager at Clear Channel Chattanooga and StyckMan is holding down the fort in Cookeville with StyckMan Mornings.

StyckMan is still involved with the High School Band at his alma mater with HIS children but secretly longs to score that big gig…The DJ on the Himalaya Amusement Park ride at the local county fair.
